Dear Mark and John

I learned with much sadness from Johnny Johnson of the passing of your Mother, and am sending many condolences to you both.

I knew both your parents well from our days in Sherwood and St. Pauls. From memory, your Mum was in the Junior School in Sherwood, so I did not come into much contact with her. I was in Sherwood during the years 1952-1958, ending up as Allen a Dale captain after 6 years in Robin Hood! I have particular affection for your father as he directed 3 plays in my last 3 years, together with Amitabh Bachchan who was in my class. He directed "The Government Inspector" in '56, "The Happiest days of your Life" in '57 and finally "10 little Niggers" in '58. This last was most enjoyable as it won me the Kendal Prize, after Amitabh won in the 2 previous years. in 1958, Amitabh fell prey to the dreaded Flu, and at the last minute, your Dad stepped in and took the role of the judge.

In 2008, we had a "Class of '58" re-union after 50 years when about 25 guys attended. Amitabh & I had a chat about our acting days and your Dad's part in those 3 plays.

IN 1959, I went to St. Pauls in Darjeeling to do my HSC as it was one of only 5 schools in India offering it. Imagine my surprise when I saw your parents again there! I came to the UK in 1961 and now live in Bookham in Surrey with my family and grandkids!

WE met up a few times at the Old Sherwoodian re-unions in Croydon and caught up on the old days.

I very much regret that we are all caught up with this virus mess as I would certainly have come to your mother's funeral.

With all good wishes to you both

Chris Borthwick
